Swearengin top fundraiser in first reporting period

Fresno—At the end of the first campaign finance reporting period in the Fresno Mayoral campaign, political newcomer and candidate for Mayor, Ashley Swearengin, disclosed raising $142,319 for her campaign, making her the top fundraiser in the first five weeks of the mayoral race.

Swearengin was followed by Henry Perea who reported $131,510 in contributions with an additional $77,400 carried forward from past campaigns, and Mike Dages who reported $65,600 raised with an additional $66,473 carried forward from past campaigns.  All other candidates reported raising $25,000 or less.

"I'm very encouraged by the level of support I've been able to generate for my campaign,” said Swearengin. “It shows that voters want a change from politics-as-usual.  We have pulled together an amazing group of volunteers - over 100 people have been walking precincts since last November.  Lots of people are volunteering their time to help with fundraising, hosting neighborhood meetings, and putting up signs.  People are really motivated on this campaign.  I'm honored to have their support."

Swearengin is a political outsider and Fresno businesswoman who is running to bring a new vision and fresh perspective to City Hall. She currently serves as the director of the Regional Jobs Initiative and as a Schwarzenegger appointee to the California Commission for Economic Development.
